50 years ago Harold Mahnke, a retired school teacher from Superior, WI, introduced the great sport of curling to Portland and Lloyd Center. So let’s celebrate! This September 23rd, at 5:30pm, Evergreen Curling Club will salute Mr. Mahnke, Lloyd Center and Portland with a retro “1962″ themed curling event at Lloyd Center Ice Rink.
Space is limited to 32 players, so signup today as a team or individual. Signup above, or send $20 registration fee to:
We’ll start at 5:30pm with a potluck dinner including fried chicken (provided by ECC) and your favorite casseroles and jello salads. We’ll have a team name contest and give awards for the best 1962 casserole and best 1962 jello salad.
Don’t know how to make these? It’s easy and fun to be cool like 1962! Here is some help: casserole, jello salad.
Then at 6:30pm we’ll hit the ice for two hours of curling. We’ll find a team for you, so feel free to sign up as an individual or as a team. We’ll also include a fun team skills competition. Wear your favorite 1962-themed costume and listen to the top hits of 1962 on the LCIR public address system. Groovy. And don’t forget… when they play Chubby Checker, it’s way easier to twist on ice!
